I’ve been talking about the TyranoClass 8 Truck from Vision Industries since 2009. Now Vision Industries has some great news to share regarding a company called Total Transportation Services, Inc. (TTS-I) of Rancho Dominquez, California that has finalized its purchase order for 100 Tyrano trucks.

The Tyrano is a plug-in hybrid hydrogen fuel cell big rig truck that has twice the torque of a diesel truck and will be used around the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach, California.

According to Vic La Rosa, President of TTS-I, “This Purchase Order demonstrates that the trucking industry has embraced the zero-emission platform. It will give regulatory agencies comfort in finally pushing the zero-emission technologies that are needed.”

It took Vision Industries and TTS-I about a year from letter of intent to finalizing the purchase order for the 100 zero emission trucks. The final deal also includes an option for TTS-I to purchase 300 additional Tyrano trucks bringing the total contract to around $108 million.

In an economy where jobs are tough to come by this will introduce dozens if not more green jobs into the marketplace and will help clean up the smoggy shipping ports along the coastline of California. This is a win-win for everyone involved.
